"Sigma Phi Epsilon is our fraternity. It embodies the spirit of our founders. To some, the fraternity is the badge. Others, when they think of Sigma Phi Epsilon have in mind the pledges, the upperclassmen, the old grads. To some, it is the excitement and spirit of joyous living together. To some, Sigma Phi Epsilon is a place where lasting friendships are formed and brotherly love reigns supreme. It is all of these and more."
Sigma Phi
Epsilon is one of the nations leading collegiate fraternities.
More than 206,000 men have become SigEp brothers since the founding
of the fraternity in 1901. On its rolls are men
of state and national reputation. Found among them are leaders
and scholars and athletes and gentlemen. Today some 13,000 brothers
on over 260 campuses comprise the undergraduate membership. Sigma
Phi Epsilon is the only fraternity to have a chapter in every
one of the fifty United States of America.
Many have sought to label SigEp at Loyola, But so eclectic are their number that, as a group, they defy definition. Not the "jocks" yet athletic; not the "geeks" yet scholarly, SigEp reflects the diversity of Loyola's campus. Membership is not limited by creed, ethnicity, or academic major. We do require that you maintain the university's academic standard, believe that your life was created with a purpose, and be willing to give of yourself for the betterment of the whole.
Sigma Phi Epsilons are in the business of making a difference in peoples lives. Sometimes we accomplish this through our Community Service projects like Habitat for Humanity, or the Crescent City Classic. Sometimes we do it through other campus organizations like the Student Government Association or Campus Ministry's Awakening. Sometimes, the difference we make is more personal, like celebrating a brother's birthday or seeing him through a rough time. Sigma Phi Epsilon is a family and we take care of our own.
Chances are good that a SigEp has already had an impact on your life. It probably started when you were introduced to a cat in a hat or Green Eggs and Ham. One of our brothers was the venerable Dr. Suess. Maybe a SigEp made a difference at lunch or dinner. Dave Thomas of Wendy's, Fred Turner of McDonald's, and Curt Carlson of TGI Friday's are all Sigma Phi Epsilon Brothers.
Have you ever played Basketball? If so, thank SigEp brother James Naismith. Or maybe you follow Baseball or Football. All-star pitcher Orel Hershiser and Hall-of-Famer Bob Lilly both spent time in a Sigma Phi Epsilon house. Or a SigEp may have made a difference in you life even while you were just watching the T.V. Perhaps you laughed at John Goodman on Rosanne or enjoyed Carroll O'Conner or Joe Don Baker on In the Heat of the Night. And SigEps continue to make a difference everyday and so too can you.
