In order to live a balanced life, Sigma Phi Epsilon not only promotes scholarship and leadership among its brothers, it seeks to instill the skills and desire for a healthy lifestyle. Intramurals plays an important role at Loyola. Until recently, the university had no intercollegiate athletic program and intramurals were the only place students could cheer on their team. Even after the university reinstated athletics, competition in the intramural program remained fierce among student organizations both on the main campust and at the Law School. During the 1995-96 academic year the chapter the chapter took second in overall intramural rankings and won both softball and volleyball. In 1996-97 SigEp imporved its position to tran first place overall, taking the titles in swimming and volleyball. In addition to these titles, Louisiana Gamma placed as quarterfinalists in basketball and flag football and semifinalists in soccer and softball. SigEp's intramural program is one of the top 3 at Loyola and has been for 3 years running. SigEp has continually finished near the top in basketball, floor hockey, swimming and golf and are very competive in football, weightlifting, and soccer. SigEp had yet another stellar year in intramural sports in 1998-1999. We were runner up in the men's Loyola All-Intramural Competition. SigEp's best teams were in basketball, flag football, and softball. The basketball team qualified for the playoffs before losing in the third round to the eventual champions. The flag football team, led by Joey Deeb, qualified for the playoffs and defeated Phi Psi if the first round before being eliminated. Softball did its best in years's, qualifying for the playoffs and defeating bitter rival Cobra Cai in the first round. Pitcher J. J. Alcott struck out numerous bewildered batters throughout the season. Floor hockey was led by the number one goalie at Loyola, Dave King, as well as graduating senior J. T. Hannan, who scored the game winning goal against the previously unbeaten Phi Psi team. SigEp is getting closer to and plotting for the great dethronement of ADG, the all-intramural champs for the last eight years. For more information on SigEp Intramurals, |
