Academics plays an important part of life at Loyola and
Sigma Phi Epsilon. Among the fraternities on campus, competition for the best
and brightest students is fierce. As such, Louisiana Gamma devotes a significant
portion of its programing to Academic Development.
To remain a member in good standing , a brother must post a Grade Point
Average of at least 2.00 each semester and officers must maintain a 2.50
GPA. To facilitate this, the chapter offers a study skills seminar for both
members and pledges each term. Weekly study hours are also a part of the
regular activities in the chapter.
After setting a record high GPA of 3.08 in Spring of 2003, SigEp has continually exemplified excellent academic progress. In the Spring 2005 semester Sigma Phi Epsilon obtained the highest GPA of any fraternity
at Loyola University. SigEp earned a 3.11 GPA for the aforementioned grading term.
The chapter also participates in the fraternity's national academic recognition
programs. Each semester the Ulysses Grant Dubach Scroll is given to the brother who has
shown the greatest improvement in grade point average between terms. Every fall,
a brother receives the Clifford B. Scott Key
for having the highest average during the previous academic year.
In addition to the nation programs, the chapter conducts two local scholarship
programs. The Rev. Monsignor Marvin Enderle Scholarship
provides a cash payment to one or morebrothers each year and the SigEp
Scholars program rewards those brother with high academic averages each
semester.
We also have a scholarship for non-members. Each year, the chapter invites
incoming freshmen males to apply for the Balanced Man Scholarship. From
among the applicant pool, we select a single person to receive the $250
cash award.
Academics serves as a key indicator of the second of our three cardinal
principles, diligence. At Louisiana Gamma, we instill brothers with both
the tools to make them successful students, and the desire to succeed in
life.
